There are different types of calipers, for the front or the rear, which respond to different piston-diameters. These piston-diameters have to stay in correlation with the breaking system as a whole.

We do two or four pistons. Brembo does not produce calipers with six pistons because they are really no more effective; if they were effective, they would surely be used by the likes of Valentino Rossi! For calipers with 6 pistons, the brake pads would have to have a greater surface, and the greater the surface, the more important becomes the heat-factor. That increase in temperature, in addition to a decrease of effectiveness, decreases the lifespan of the disc. Also, the longer the brake pads are (which would be necessary with 6 calipers), the harder they have to work, the breaking distance is thus farther, and the point at which the wheels block is closer.

We distinguish between 2 categories of calipers :
Calipers «machined» : 4 pistons (2*30 mm + 2*34mm). They are made of most resistant aluminum alloy, offering maximum rigidity.  Calipers “machined” allow, with great rigidity, to achieve an increase in power while decreasing the total weight. They also allow to rid a weak obstruction (inversed fork, rims supermoto).
Calipers «Forged» : 4 pistons (2*30 mm + 2*34mm).  The calipers from the foundry are widely used for the factory assembly because of an innovative scheme combining technical aspects/quality/price  as well as their easy adaptation to different factory motorbikes.

Other calipers are mostly available for the rear of the motorbike.

On the inside of the master cylinder, the force created by the driver through pulling the hand brake or pushing the foot brake is transformed into pressure. This pressure is transferred by the hydraulic system, and makes the pistons push the brake pads against the disc, thus blocking the disc’s rotation and determining the braking.

A brake pump is made up of a body on the inside of which a cylinder is machined; on the inside of this cylinder, a piston from the master cylinder is located on which, normally by way of a special little screw, acts the control stick.

We can differentiate between two different master cylinders (brake and/or clutch) for the front wheel :

• master cylinders with axial movement are available with a built-in or separated tank, with or without contactor stop. This type of master cylinder is used by most motorbike constructors.

master cylinders with radial movement they are shorter, and allow one arm to come to more important use. These master cylinders come directly from the racing industry. The handle bar allows to define 28 different positions, following the anatomy of the hand. The main advantage of the radial master cylinder is to allow maximum efficiency with minimal physical effort. It allows for an excellent control by the hand.

There is also our line of master cylinders for the rear with separated tank available (available in push or pull).
